Sydney University Kendo Club members Kim Avina and Daichi Fujisawa won gold at the Korean Kumdo Championship held by the Macquarie University/Hanrimwon Club.
80 participants from NSW and Canberra competed at the event on Saturday May 11, but it was Sydney Uni’s Avina (women’s kyu individual – non-blackbelt) and Fujisawa (men’s dan individuals – black-belt) who came away with major achievements.
In other news, the Sydney University Kendo Club will be hosting their annual charity competition on July 6 at the Sydney University Sports Centre (Cumberland Campus) from 8am-6pm. Club’s from NSW, Canberra and Melbourne will be invited to compete, and donations can be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Genome Initiative (an Australian Institution based in Sydney) on the day.
