Former Australian One-Day and Test representative Leah Poulton unleashed on the Bankstown bowling attack with an innings of 129 from just 66 deliveries in a Sydney Women’s Twenty20 round three match at Bankstown Oval on Saturday.

The Universities opener cracked 12 sixes and eight fours in her 67-minute stay. She shared an opening stand of 119 with Rachael Haynes, another Australian representative, who scored a ‘pedestrian’ 44 from 30 balls, and 79 with Lydia Greenway, who finished with 12 not out.

Universities rattled up an imposing 3-201 from their 20 overs before limiting Bankstown to 7-121 off 20 overs. Ashleigh Gardner topscored for the hosts with 41, while Kate Owen (2-28), Melissa Norup (1-19), Kate Coppack (1-8) and Emily Mifsud (1-10) shared the spoils.

Poulton retired from international one-day cricket at the end of the 2012 season to concentrate on club cricket and the Twenty20 format. She topscored with 48 in Universities’ round one win over Penrith.

Universities also took the points in their round two tilt with Campbelltown-Camden, and head the Twenty20 competition with their win at Bankstown.

The Sydney Women’s (Limited-Overs) Grade competition starts this weekend with Universities up against Campbelltown-Camden at Raby No.1 Oval.
