Sydney University Athletics Club men’s team wrapped up the 2011 Winter Premiership with a solid performance at the NSW Marathon Championships, held in conjunction with the Sydney Marathon, on Sunday.

The Winter Premiership is staged over six meets during the colder months, including the Cross Country Relays (SUAC finished 2nd), NSW Road Relays (2nd), NSW Long Course Cross Country (1st), NSW Short Course Cross Country (1st), NSW Half Marathon Championships (2nd) and the NSW Marathon Championships.

SUAC’s Nick Bellemore made a top 20 finish in the Blackmores Sydney Marathon on Sunday, while SUAC’s  Clive Cooper and Derek Mulhearn also finished what will be remembered as one of the most brutal marathons held in Australia due to the oppressive weather conditions.

Meanwhile, SUAC’s Russell Dessaix-Chin won the 9km Bridge Run (the second biggest fun run in NSW) on Sunday, with SUAC’s Lachlan Chisholm finishing 2nd and SUAC’s Jack Colreavy also finishing in the top 10.

SUAC coach Dean Gleeson said the club is checking the record books to find out if it is the University’s first win in the Winter Premiership.

“This win continues what has been a stellar 12 months for the SUAC men with a dominant win at the Australian University Games, a victory at the NSW Club Championships over the summer and Lachlan Renshaw’s 800m win at World University Games,” he said.
