Sydney University posted back-to-back wins in the North East Australian Football League with an 11-point result over Northern Territory Thunder in their Round 6 clash at Football Park in Darwin on Saturday.

In their first win over the Thunder in two seasons, Sydney University kicked 13.12: 90 to the Territory’s 12.7: 79, with Austin Lucy and Mitchell Thompson each kicking three goals for the winners.

The win over fourth-placed Thunder built on their 10-point result over Ainslie at Blacktown International Sports Park the previous Saturday and lifted them level with a group of five teams sitting just outside the top four on the NEAFL ladder. And each of the group has a game up their sleeves.

University of Western Sydney Giants head the table on 20 points (on percentages) after six rounds, with Aspley (20), Sydney Swans (16) and Northern Territory Thunder (16) making up the top four.

The ladder then has five teams locked on eight points, with Ainslie heading the list on percentages from Southport, Sydney University, Cold Coast Stars and Redland.

Sydney University will be looking to making it three on the trot when they host winless Eastlake at Henson Park this Saturday, with an 11am kick-off.

Meanwhile, in the Sydney Premier League, Sydney University posted a 51-all draw with Pennant Hills Demons in their Round 6 match at Mike Kenny Oval on Saturday.

Luke Vella, Lachlan Maples, Thomas Elkington, Spencer Krochmal, Montgomery Krochmal, Yarran Jaffer-Williams and James Lewington scored goals for the Students, who consolidate their place in the top four.

East Coast Eagles head the way on 20 points on percentages after six rounds, with Manly Warringah Giants (20), Pennant Hills (18) and Sydney University (14), UTS Bats (8) and St George Dragons (8) making up the top six. University, UTS and St George each have a game in hand.

Sydney University take on second-placed Manly-Warringah at Weldon Oval this Saturday.

In the Sydney Women’s Premier League, Sydney University consolidated their position in the top four with a 30-point win over second-place Newtown Breakaways at St Paul’s College on Saturday. The Students won 63-33.

Western Wolves head the women’s competition, with Newtown and Sydney University on the second rung and UNSW-Eastern Suburbs making up the top four.
