13.07.2008 – Graham Croker

Sydney University Australian National Football Club scholarship holder Nick Clark was named the Sydney AFL NAB Rising Star for Round 12.

On the back of two notable performances in recent weeks, Clark caught the competition’s attention with an exciting performance against North Shore in a thrilling loss two weeks ago and another accomplished performance in the Student’s 14-point win over Wollongong.

In both matches Clark played admirably from a half-back flank and back pocket, demonstrating terrific composure under fire and providing plenty of attacking rebound from the opposition’s forward 50-metre zone.

Clark excelled with his attack on the ball, displaying clean hands and buckets of courage below his knees and in the air before providing sound disposal and decision-making further afield. In particular, his reading of the play – when to leave and not leave his man – to assist team-mates has been a highlight.

Having displayed flashes of brilliance throughout the year, Clark completed accomplished four-quarter efforts against the Bombers and Lions, something coach Daniel Archer and the club have been waiting for all year.
A former Willoughby Wildcat, Clark is one of a number of exciting young development players with the club and is expected to be a significant contributor to the club’s fortunes in the next few years.

He is Sydney University’s second weekly nominee in 2008 – following Brydon Coles in Round 4 – and will be eligible for the end of season Rising Star Award which will be awarded to the best first year player in the Sydney AFL.
