Randwick-Petersham skipper Adam Semple’s decision to declare at the overnight score of 8-306 was on the money at Sydney University No.1 Oval on Saturday.

The visitors rolled the Students for 166 to take first innings points in the first of the two-day round of matches in the 2015-16 Sydney Grade competition.

Randwick-Petersham posted their big first innings total on the back of Jake Scicluna’s 106, Nick Price’s 56 and Soumil Chhibber’s late order 63.

Batting at No.4, Scicluna cracked 17 boundaries in a patient 239-minute stay at the crease, during which he faced 171 balls.

Nigel Cowell was the pick of the University bowlers, collecting 5-71 from his 22 overs.

Plenty of Sydney University batsmen made starts in the run chase, but partnerships were a rarity as wickets tumbled with regularity. Ryan Carters (33), Liam Robertson (30) and Ben Trevor-Jones (21) posted almost half of the 166-run reply, with Semple (2-20), Samuel Doggett (2-21), Daniel Sams (2-22) and Chhibber (2-36) collecting the spoils.

In the lower grades, Steven Hobson cracked an unbeaten 102 to guide Sydney University Seconds to a first innings win, while James Larkin’s unbeaten 109 helped Sydney University Thirds to the first innings points.

Randwick-Petersham collected first innings points in the Fourth and Fifth grade fixtures.

Round 4 of the competition proper sees Sydney University host Sutherland at No.1 Oval on October 24 and 31.

Meanwhile, Sydney University remain unbeaten in the Thunder Conference of the Sydney Grade Twenty20 Cup competition after accounting for Western Suburbs in their Round 5 clash at Pratten Park on Sunday.

Liam Robertson’s smashed 71 off 48 deliveries, including eight boundaries and a pair of sixes, to lead the Students to 7-181 off their 20 overs.

He shared a 96-run partnership with opener David Miller, who also took the long handle to the Western Suburbs’ bowlers, with six boundaries and a six in his 40-ball stay.

The hosts were in the hunt at 3-75, but lost 7-57 to be all out for 132 off 17.5 overs. Tom Kierath collected 3-20 off his four overs, while Liam Robertson (2-16) and Nigell Cowell (2-30) shared in the spoils.
