Sydney University ended the opening day of the 2011-12 season in a strong position against Gordon at Chatswood Oval, thanks to a fighting 107 from No.3 Scott Henry and 80 from Ian Moran.

The Students were 7-267 when bad light halted play at 3.36pm on Saturday and will resume next week with James Crowley (17) and Josh Toyer (2) at the crease.

Henry and Moran put on 116 for the third wicket after the reigning premiers had lost openers Nick Larkin (6) and Greg Mail (1) with just 11 on the board.

Backing up his 43 in Sydney University’s State Challenge win at Newcastle two weeks ago, Henry found the fence 15 times in his 231-minute occupation on Saturday.

Moran was not so sedated, cracking 11 boundaries in his 80 from 108 balls.

Henry and Moran were both snared by quick James Kennedy, who finished two enterprising spells with 4-59.

Henry and Larkin are in Brisbane this week playing for NSW Second XI against Queensland Second XI at the Gabba. They’ll return for club duties next Saturday.
