Sydney University opener Greg Mail is looking at yet another 1000+ run season in the Sydney Grade competition, after posting back-to-back centuries in the first two limited overs fixtures for 2010-11.
Mail backed up his 138 against Mosman in the season opener on October 3 with 166 in Sydney University’s 146-run win over Manly-Warringah at Manly Oval on Saturday.
He cracked 24 boundaries and two sixes in his 187 minutes at the crease, and faced just 155 balls. He departed, bowled by Nat Hill, with the Students 3-269.
Mail and opening partner Will Hay (27) put on 78 as the Students racked up 6-276 off their 50 overs after winning the toss and batting. Ian Moran (29) and Scott Henry (22) also played useful knocks as Mail went about his business.
Sydney University collected a bonus point to take seven from the match when they dismissed Manly-Warringah for 130 off 40.1 overs, with Kevin Desai (3-33) and Scott Henry 2-9 earning the bowling plaudits.
Having retired from first-class cricket, Mail is looking to follow up his Sydney Grade exploits from last season when he amassed 1158 at an average of 82.71.
Meanwhile, Sydney University Seconds pulled off an amazing 20-run win over Manly-Warringah at Sydney University No.2 Oval.
After being dismissed for just 156 off 40.4 overs, the Students knocked over the visitors for 136 off 38.1 overs to take the points. Jim Kazaglis (34) top-scored with the bat and collected 2-24 to share the bowling honours with Liam Robertson (3-29), Stuart McLean (2-6) and Robert Edwards (2-33).
Manly-Warringah triumphed in Thirds, Fourths and Fifths.
