The battle of the campuses ended in a draw at Sydney University Oval on Saturday when UNSW batted out day two in their Round 6 Belvedere Cup encounter.

Chasing Sydney University’s 3(dec)-348, UNSW’s kept wagging as they ended day two on 324 with two wickets in hand.

Batting at No.7. Tahminul Islam contributed 84, while No.6 Marcus Atallah posted 60 and No.8 Suthangan Thanabalasingam scored 30 after opener Joseph Byrnes headed the visitors in the right direction with a patient 58 off 141 deliveries.

Ben  Joy collected 3-53 off a 21-over spell as UNSW held on for 100 overs to force the draw.

Damien Mortimer (143) and Ben Trevor-Jones (87) contributed the bulk of Sydney University’s runs on day one, with a 124-run third wicket partnership, while Hayden Kerr (64 not out) and skipper Liam Robertson (44 not out) capitalised with a 90-run fourth wicket partnership.

While the Kenso Clan and the Camperdown Bookworms earnt a point each for all of that hard work, Sydney University maintained the lead in the NSW Premier Cricket First Grade competition on 27 points, with Sydney (26), UNSW (26), Penrith (25), Bankstown (24) and Sutherland (22) making up the top six.

Sydney University also head the Second and Fourth grade ladders and lie second in Third and Fifth grades to head the Club Championship on 648 points ahead of Bankstown (568) and Penrith (465).

Round 7 will see Sydney University head west to take on 18th placed Hawkesbury in a two-day fixture at Owen Earle Oval
