While Sydney University batsmen were scoring centuries across the city in day one of the Round 6 NSW Premier competition, club mate Nick Larkin was making merry for NSW.

Larkin cracked an unbeaten 175 in NSW’s second innings at Manuka Oval, Canberra on Sunday, helping NSW to set a 380-run target for Queensland going into the final day of their Sheffield Shield clash.

Coming off a bumper 2017-18 club season, Larkin repaid the NSW selectors’ faith in allowing him to settle in to a regular opening berth this season. He posted 23 boundaries in his 290-ball stay and shared a 258-run opening partnership with Daniel Hughes (116). Queensland were 3-67 at stumps on day three.

While Larkin, SUCC’s First XI captain when not representing NSW, was making his mark, Sydney University batsmen were posting tons across the grades.

Fourth Grade opener Vince Umbers hit 20 boundaries and six over the pickets in scoring 197 in the clash with UNSW at David Phillips North on Saturday.

He shared a 169-run, sixth-wicket partnership with Ed Arnott (57) as the Students posted 358 on day one of the match.

Billy Barge posted an unbeaten 146 for Sydney University’s Metropolitan Cup side in their Round 7 match against UNSW at David Phillips North on Sunday.

Batting at No.4, Barge cracked 17 boundaries and four sixes and shared a 124-run partnership with opener Ryan Blayney (86) as the Students declared at 5-321. UNSW were 1-36 at stumps.

Meanwhile, Damien Mortimer’s 143 allowed Sydney University First Grade to declare at 3-348 in their Round 6 match against UNSW at University Oval on Saturday.

Batting at No.3, Mortimer’s patient 236-ball occupation included 16 boundaries and a six, and a 224-run partnership with Ben Trevor-Jones (87). UNSW were 0-21 at stumps.

Over at Hurstville Oval, Matthew Moran’s unbeaten 121 helped Sydney University to a 14-run win over St George in their Round 8 Poidevin-Gray clash on Sunday.

Backing up from his Fourth Grade 43 on Saturday, Moran his 13 boundaries and three sixes and shared a 115-run partnership with Hayden Storey (52) as Sydney University posted 4-265 off their 50 overs.

In an exciting finish, the Students rolled the hosts for 251 off 49 overs, with No.6 Peter Francis keeping the game alive with a 94-ball 100.

And down the road at Camperdown Oval, Sydney University Fifth Grade opener Hugh Kermond posted 114 as the Students went to stumps on day one at 6-295 in the match against UNSW.

Kermond hit 13 boundaries and two over the top and shared stands of 106 with Liam Coelho (58) and 95 with Brayden Dilley (50).
