Elite Athlete Program member Yareni Guerrero has her sights set on next year’s Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.

The wrestlting athlete and PhD candidate recently returned from a five-week trip to Mexico, participating in a Xll Opening Season Tournament of Mexican Universities and representing the University of Sydney.

In her category, Yareni finished an incredible first place. 

Ahead of the tournament, she partook in a number of preparatory training sessions.

“The training sessions were tough but great experience,” she said. 

“I feel fitter, stronger and nearly ready for the qualification tournament (for the Commonwealth Games) in late November.”

Yareni will now focus on training with Head Coach, Leonid Zavlasky in the Sydney Uni Sports & Aquatic Centre Dojo ahead of the qualifification tournament.
