Brydens Sydney Uni Flames are proud to announce the re-signing of club star Katie Ebzery ahead of the upcoming 2015/16 Wattle Valley WNBL season.
Ebzery, who has been the cornerstone of the club for some time, will return for her sixth season with the Flames after commencing with the side at the age of 20.
Forming part of this year’s dynamic back court duo, Ebzery was unstoppable this season, which was reflected in her being awarded joint accolades for the clubs Most Valuable Player. She averaged 16.8 points per game, the sixth highest average in the league, while also maintaining averages of 3 assists, 1.1 steals and 3.5 rebounds per game. She is also a highly efficient player, shooting the ball at 40.6 per cent from the field and 44.7 per cent from three point range.
In the 2014/15 season Ebzery passed her 200 game milestone, this is an amazing achievement for a player who is only 25 years old. Katie has a wealth of experience, giving her a composure which is evident on the court; she looks effortless in her attack on the basket while also distributing the ball well and being ferocious on defense. Her ability to lead the team made her a perfect Co-Captain for the Flames this year.
Ebzery has now been given the opportunity to further improve her game, returning to where her professional basketball career began at the Centre for Excellence in Canberra to play in the South East Australian Basketball League during the WNBL off season. She will be mentored and trained by Australian Head Coach Brendan Joyce. This will assist her as she strives to make selection for the Jayco Opals team of which she is already a squad member.
With many international experiences under her belt, this looks like an achievable feat for the star that has collected bronze medals at World University Games in 2011 and 2013, a further bronze medal at the FIBA 3×3 Women’s World Championships in 2012 and represented at the Under 19 World Championships in 2007.
Upon discussing her return for another season with the club, Katie was excited. “I’m thrilled to be back with the Flames again! I’m looking forward to working with our group and making improvements so we can go one step further and get to the Grand Final next year!” The optimistic guard reported.
Coach Shannon Seebohm had similar sentiments regarding the signing of Ebzery. “We have a strong core group at the Flames that have played together for a number of years. Katie has been a part of that group which continues to get better year on year. She has an unbelievable amount of talent and a great work ethic; she is helping us to forge a great culture here which will help us strive toward a title next year” Seebohm said.
To see the return of such a quality player in Ebzery is extremely pleasing for the Brydens Sydney Uni Flames who will be looking to build on an incredible 2014/15 season in the Wattle Valley WNBL competition in six months’ time.
