A total of six Sydney University Boat Club representatives contested podium finishes in the A-Finals at World Cup 2 in Linz, Austria with four winning medals. 

The World Rowing Cup is an annual series of three regattas that act as a lead-up to the World Rowing Championships. The events are held across three days each.

In Austria (World Cup 2), Australia’s Men’s Four took gold, featuring Sydney University Boat Club’s Jack Hargreaves plus Josh Hicks, Spencer Turrin and Alex Hill. The crew led their final from start to finish, with Romania coming in second and Germany third. Australia’s women’s four also took gold in their event.

In the women’s quadruple scull, Australia – featuring club representatives, Genevieve Horton and Rowena Meredith – won bronze. Australia also took bronze in the women’s eight which included club member, Georgina Gotch. 

Alex Purnell, in the Men’s Quadruple Scull, finished fourth, missing out on third by 0.78 of a second. Australia’s Men’s Eight featuring Nick Purnell finished fifth. 

As well at the event, Sydney University Boat Club member, Campbell Watts came away ranked 14th in his international debut in the Single, while Georgia Miansarow came away ranked 15th in the Lightweight Women’s Double.

Athletes will now look to the final World Rowing Cup in Lucerne next month.
