The Australian Women’s Water Polo Team have claimed gold at the FINA World League Tournament in California, USA following an emphatic 10-7 win over the US.
Sydney University Women’s Water Polo Club’s Isobel Bishop, Hannah Buckling and Keesja Gofers contributed to the win with Gofers scoring three goals and Buckling scoring one in the final.
Locked at 7-7 late in the final quarter, the Stingers managed to score three quick points against the favourites to take out the gold.
The Stingers defeated Canada, China, Japan and Kazakhstan earlier in the tournament.
The win secures the national squad a start at the FINA World League Super Final in June.
