The Sydney Uni Lions continued their strong start to the season with a 56-0 win over the Nepean Ducks at Austral on Saturday.

Devin Lagorio (#90) and the defensive front led the way for the Lions, holding the Ducks’ running game to negative yardage and swarming the backfield on the pass. Lagorio topped the tackle count with 6 tackles (3 for loss and 2 sacks), with Sean Jones (5 tackles, 1 for loss), Steve Dabin (4 tackles, 2 for loss, 1 sack), Keenan Mackett (4 tackles, 1 pass breakup) and Nick Olive (4 tackles) all making important contributions. Bola Labulo (#53) recovered his second fumble this season and added 4 tackles and 1 for a loss to a strong team performance.

On offence, the Lions moved the ball on the ground and through the air. Running back Alex Watson (#40) drove the run game, rushing for 120 yards on 11 carries at 10.9 yards per rush and a touchdown, with Andrew Smart (#29) also scampering for a touchdown on a 12 yard carry.

Quarterback Kiernan Dorney (#11) and the Lions receivers were uncharacteristically out of rhythm early, missing on their first three pass attempts, but rebounded to complete their next 14 straight passes to finish with 295 pass yards and 6 touchdowns on the day. Brandon Ausley (#87) saw his first action for the season, holding 3 catches for 99 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Victor Martin (2 TDs) and Justin Klein (1 TD) both caught 5 passes.

The Lions now look forward to their Homecoming game at Sydney Uni on the Square this Saturday (19 September), with the Tailgate BBQ starting at 3pm, the Cubs kicking off at 5pm and the Lions at 7pm. We welcome all former players, family, friends and supporters to get back to the Uni this Saturday to cheer on your team.
