Sydney University Waterpolo Club and Elite Athlete Program member Anthony Hrysanthos has been named in the Aussie Sharks side ahead of the FINA World League Super Final kicking off tonight in Budapest Hungary.

Hrysanthos was selected in the side following an outstanding season with the Sydney University Lions. The Lions claimed the elusive Australian Waterpolo League crown and Hrysanthos impressed, being named the final series MVP.

The Aussie squad have been in a training camp in Croatia for the past week preparing for the Finals. First up, the Sharks take on host Hungary and there is a high expectation a large and loud crowd will be present.

Aussie Sharks schedule (local Australian Time – AEST):

  • Day 1 Monday, June 18 – Aus vs Hungary 20:05 (4:05am AEST, June 19)
  • Day 2 Tuesday, June 19 – Aus vs Japan 15:15 (11:15pm AEST )
  • Day 3 Wednesday, June 20 – Aus vs Montenegro 16:45 (12:45am AEST, June 21)
  • Day 4-6 – TBC

Along with Hrysanthos, three Sydney University Lions have been named in the Aussie Stingers squad   for their three-week European tour in preparation for the FINA Women’s Water Polo World Cup in September.

Isobel Bishop, Hannah Buckling and Keeja Gofers were named in the squad who will participate in training camps with Spain and Greece as well as compete in two local tournaments.

Their first competition will be at the International Water Polo Tournament Villa De Portugalete in Spain against Spain, Greece and Russia, beginning June 22.

Following the Spanish leg, the team will travel to Hungary to compete in the Vodafone Cup against Hungary, China and USA, starting on June 27.
