The Brydens Sydney Uni Flames have grabbed another home victory, defeating the visiting Melbourne Boomers 93-86 at the siren.
In the high energy and high scoring game, the Flames hot shooting stats say it all, securing 63% from the field and 58% from behind the arc.
Captain Katie Ebzery praised the team’s offensive execution, “It’s exciting that we have so many contributors and the best example tonight was Tahlia Tupaea stepping up in her first year as a starting point guard.”
From igniting the board in the opening minutes to top scoring with an impressive 29 points, Tupaea certainly made her presence known, while Ebzery’s impact was felt across the court totalling 20 points and leading in assists.
Trailing at half time (44-47), Carolyn Swords fired in after the break for 2pts. Backed by home crowd support, the Flames quickly reduced the deficit to take last quarter advantage.
In a tight contest, teams were marginally separated in the final five minutes (83-79). Deakin’s Tess Madgen kept chasing right to the buzzer but the Flames held strong to make it 3 from 4 for the season.
The Flames head to Logan Metro next Friday 30 October where they will take on SEQ Stars at 7:30pm.
Coach Shannon Seebohm believes the Flames still have room for improvement but is confident that they will only get better as the season progresses.
“Every team in the league this year is tough and you’ve got to be prepared for anything. We’ll be working on a few key areas for the next couple of months so we can keep improving game by game,” said Seebohm.
