Anneliese Rubie moved into the Commonwealth Games women’s 400m semi-finals with a dominant win in her heat at the Carrara Stadium Track last night.

The Sydney University Athletics Club runner powered home in 51.51sec, to edge out Botswana’s Galefele Moroko (53.28) and British Virgin Islands runner Ashley Kelly for the minor places.

With the top four from each of the five heats advancing to the semi-finals, fourth-placed Emily Nanziri (54.10), from Uganda, also progressed through.

Rubie will be in elite company in tonight’s semi-finals, with Heat 2 being won by Jamaica’s Stephanie McPherson in 50.80; Heat 1 being won by Botswana’s Amantle Montsho in 51.20 ahead of Jamaica’s Anastasia Le-Roy (51.37); Heat 3 being taken out by Kenya’s Maximila Imali in 51.74 and Heat 5 being won by Nigeria’s Yinka Ajayi in 51.71, ahead of Botswana’s Christine Botogetswe in 51.73.
