Sydney University Rugby League Football Club has announced the appointment of Brian Greige as the new Head Coach for 2016.

Greige, who has just finished a stint as National Coach of the South African Rugby League, has also held coaching appointments with teams from the USA and New Zealand and coaching programs with the Australian National Rugby League.

Prior to his appointment with the South African Rhinos, he spent three-and-a-half months in the republic involved in the development of junior rugby league and assisting in the development of university rugby league clubs.

In announcing the appointment of Greige, SURLC president Chris Kintis said the focus of SURLFC is to once again compete in NSWRL competitions while continuing to field teams in the NSW Tertiary Students Rugby League competition.

“Brian’s commitment to helping SURLFC progress to a second tier club is fantastic,” he said. “His experience and coaching ability will provide the platform required for SURLFC to achieve that goal.”

Greige said he was looking forward to the opportunity of coaching at SURLFC. “SURLFC has a fantastic history,” he said. “It’s exciting to join the Club at a time when it has really re-emerged as presence in rugby league.

“I believe the Club is going places and I’m looking forward to the challenge of guiding SURLFC to the next tier of football.”
