Sydney University Women’s Rugby finished an impressive 3rd in their pool at the Byron Bay 7s over the weekend.

A huge day on Saturday saw the girls win two of their four pool games, beating Dua Ga and Brisbane Doggies, but losing to Sunnybank and Gold Coast.

SUWR progressed to the Cup Quarter Finals against invitational side Ozboks. A big win then saw the girls move to the Cup Semi Finals. Unfortunately, the girls lost by a small margin to a very strong and experienced Sunnybank team.

Finishing 3rd overall at Byron Bay 7s, SUWR now have two weekends off before competing in Liverpool for the Pacific Unity 7s, where the club will be fielding two teams on November 7th.

Although the students do not have another tournament until November, a number of Sydney Uni players have been invited to play with invitational sides next weekend at Central Coast 7s. Iliseva Batibasaga is back in the Aussie colours, playing for Australia Development, whilst Amy Foo, Bronte Stutchbury, Melanie Tri and Kim Davey will be playing for Central Coast Academy, Emily Chancellor will be playing for Stars Rugby from the USA and Barbara Waddell and Alexandra Hargreaves will be playing for Ozboks.
