The Students slipped to fourth on the ladder following their loss to Southport at Frankhauser Reserve on Saturday, August 22.

In their last bid to make the top six, the Sharks opened with determination, taking an early 26-point lead at quarter time.

Strengthened by the return of Captain Tim Barton, Matt Rawlinson, Gabe Orr and Aron Everett for the 12pm clash, the Students went into the match hoping to seal a home final.

But the Sharks came armed with one of their best sides of the season, with Tim Jones providing best plays for Southport.

Despite the strong final 49-point domination, Sydney Uni’s Sam Fong did his best to fade the Sharks finals hopes, with Tim Barton, Jed Turner and Jacob Derickx (three goals) among their better players.

Sydney Uni will face one of their toughest assignments of the season next week when they face the UWS Giants at 10:05am on Saturday 29 August at Spotless Stadium.
