Sydney University Boat Club has accepted six male rowers from the University of Queensland Boat Club who are unable to train in Queensland due to the recent floods.

Five of the six rowers are training to make the Under 23 Australian Rowing team – Chris Camphin, Chris Anderson, Will Lindores, Tom Coates, Harrison Westbrook.

The sixth rower, Dorian Weber, is a US born rower who lives in the UK and is out in Australia for a break from the cold UK winter. Weber will trial for the US senior team later in the year.

The gesture from the Sydney University Boat Club was welcomed by the University of Queensland Boat Club and their athletes.

“I made some phone calls to some of the coaches I know up in Queensland to check how they were getting on after the floods,” said Mark Prater, Sydney University Rowing Director.

“The head coach at University of Queensland Boat Club (UQBC) asked whether we could take some of their athletes for about four weeks, since they were unable to train on the Brisbane River for at least that period of time. We were happy to help out.”

The six athletes have integrated with the Sydney University rowing squads and they will compete in the local regattas.

Some of them will also be billeted out with parents of Sydney University rowers.

UTS rowing club is hosting four University of Queensland Boat Club female rowers for this time.
