It was another successful weekend of racing for Sydney Uni Staminade with athletes taking out nearly every category at the Canberra Junior and Women’s Tour.

The event saw four races evenly divided across two days with the races themselves varying from hilly road races to a shorter flatter criterium. The final race was a time trial loop along the northern shore of Lake Burley Griffin.

Current Elite Athlete Program member, Georgie Whitehouse won the General Classification, with a combined time of 21 seconds short of 5 hours of racing over the two days of competition. This was the result of four combined races.

Fellow team-member Megan Scott came in 3rd overall, closely followed by Sydney Uni Velo Club member and former student, and EAP athlete) Ella Bloor in 4th.

Other team members came in 6th (Jade Colligan), 10th (Gina Ricardo), 12th (Abby Sneddon), 15th (Amy Vesty), 16th (Emma Roberts) and 19th (Angela Smith).

Additionally, other Sydney Uni Velo Club members finished 14th (Jen Darmody) and 18th (Sam Boyce).

Georgie won the Queen of the Mountains classification, just beating Megan Scott, and also won the Sprint Classification with an emphatic victory over Canberra’s Vicki Whitelaw with Gina Ricardo in 3rd place.

It was a particularly satisfying victory for Georgie, with Vicki Whitelaw being a former international rider, riding for the Lotto Honda team in the now-superseded UCI Women’s Road Cycling World Cup.

In the Under 19s women’s classification, Sydney Uni – Staminade and SU Velo Club member, Emily Watts won the General Classification, and the Queen of the Mountain and came third in the the Sprint Classification, missing out on that last prize by just one sprint point.

Congratulations to all athletes on another phenomenal weekend of racing.
