Sydney Uni Elite Athlete Program (EAP) scholarship holder Lara Tamsett has braved a heel injury to finish ahead of Jessica Trengrove and Abigail Bailey to win the Gold Coast Half Marathon event held over the weekend.
Tamsett, the reigning champion in the City to Surf and Launceston Ten 10km events, stopped the clock in a time of 1:12.19 hours.
Tamsett’s performance was made all the more remarkable because this was her first tilt at a half marathon.
“I didn’t know what to expect but I wanted to enjoy it and stay in control, but it was painful from the gun,” Tamsett said.
