The Southern Design Show Court is set to be an inferno with the Sydney Uni Flames clash with the Townsville Fire this Sunday at 1pm.

In an important battle of the “sparks”, both teams will be desperate for a win after double road losses last weekend.

The Flames dropped two games in Melbourne, with Townsville going down to Perth and Adelaide on the WNBL’s “Doomsday Double”.

With the mid-point of the season upon us, it is very much a case of now or never for the home team and the visiting Queenslanders.

Sydney produced a spirited comeback against Bulleen last Saturday to comeback from 21 points down to tie the scores with 65 seconds to play.

But the Flames couldn’t finish it off and will be keen to secure a win on Sunday to build on the positive signs from the Melbourne double.

Hard working guard Nat Stafford and Eva Afeaki were the prime movers in the Bulleen comeback and have taken leadership roles in recent weeks.

Teenager Ashleigh Karaitiana saw game time in both clashes last week and continues to impress for the Flames.

Former Opal Jo Hill recorded two “double doubles” for the Fire last weekend and her leadership and big game experience is crucial for the visitors.

Liveries guard Amy Lewis has been a thorn in the side of the Flames in previous clashes and she looms as a real test for the Sydney defence.

With both clubs needing a win to stay in touch with the play-off race, this weekend’s game is sure to be an intense, defence oriented battle.

Still yet to record a home win, look for the spirited Flames to grab a win in a tense four quarter battle.

Gates open at 11.30am Sunday 5th December.

 Tip-off is at 1pm.
