Sydney University Elite Athlete scholarship holders, and brothers, Derek and Jordan Mulhearn, earned top 10 finishes in the open men’s 10 mile walk at the 2011 National Championships held in Canberra over the weekend.
Derek, who finished in sixth position, was forced to battle a very hilly course with an injured knee, which caused him to slow down significantly and occasionally stop. Derek will now concentrate on rehabilitating and strengthening his knee before preparing for some events at the end of the year.
Jordan finished ninth in what his first attempt at the 10 mile distance. Jordan will now turn his attention the NSW Short Walks event, which takes place in just two weeks.
