| AIMS
Scholarships are awarded on an annual basis and are paid in two equal instalments pending a mid -year review of academic and sporting progress. The scholarships provide financial assistance to the athletes for varying amounts from $1,000 to $5,000. They are claimable for expenses related directly to studying at the University. SUSF also offers athletes with recognised potential the opportunity to be involved in the Talented Athlete Program (TAP). Whilst these athletes do not receive a financial scholarship they are able to access all other benefits associated with the scholarship/elite athlete program, such as travel funding, tutoring and access to sport science services. |

BENEFITS Scholarships Scholarships may range from $1,000 to $10,000 per annum. It can help with a range of costs, including University fees, text books, accommodation, sporting equipment and health insurance. In the case of joint sport/ residential college scholarships funding will be paid directly to the college towards residential fees. Representative Travel Grants Additional financial assistance up to $2000 may be provided to athletes if selected in a State or National team to cover travel costs such as accommodation/air fares. Personal Development Personal development, educational seminars and workshops, such as time management, essay-writing, exam techniques, sports psychology, media workshops and nutrition will be provided to assist both academic and sporting development. Tutoring Free and comprehensive tutoring (up to 10 hours per semester) for all athletes will be provided across a broad range of subjects. Tutoring is provided on a request basis and can be arranged when athletes are having difficulties or have missed classes due to sporting commitments. Academic Representation and Liaison Representation to academic staff may be made on behalf of the athlete under special circumstances. Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness is one of the only universities in Australia to boast a formal agreement with the University Senate in relation to academic flexibility for athletes. Academic Counselling Academic counselling and assistance with subject and course selection will be provided. Media Exposure Outstanding performances will be promoted through the Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness marketing department - to the University, Local and Metropolitan media channels. Facility Access Athletes will have access to the cardio and weights training facilities at the Arena Sports Centre and the Olympic swimming pool at the Sports and Aquatics Centre. Sport Services A professional Strength & Conditioning service is provided through the Arena Sports Centre, giving athletes access to services such as fitness assessments, testing and personalised training programs. Athletes are also able to access qualified sports dieticians by request, subject to approval. Services at the Sports Clinic, including physiotherapy and remedial massage are also discounted for scholarship holders. Elite Athlete and Performers Scheme This scheme is for applicants who are able to demonstrate that they are elite athletes or performers, and have had training, competitive and/or practice commitments which have interfered with their studies. In some cases students can receive up to five marks. Athlete Mentoring A unique athlete mentoring network of former scholarship holders is available. Mentors can offer support and advice about juggling sporting and academic commitments, as well as career planning and networks through Sydney Uni Sport and Fitness and the wider community. | |
