The Sydney University Lions were one of the foundation teams of Gridiron NSW (then known as the NSWGFL), playing its first game on 29 April 1984. The Lions are the only team to have competed in every season of the Gridiron NSW competition. The Lions have established an enviable winning tradition, playing in 22 championship games in 28 years and winning 13 Gridiron NSW titles, the most by any club. The Lions have won the last 9 Waratah Bowl Championship games. Winning the title in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011.
The Lions also have a very successful junior program. The 'Cubs' is an under 18's program that play a 7 man version of the game on Friday nights. The Cubs season has commenced for 2012 with pre season training underway on Sundays mornings from 10am-1pm at 'The Square' and on Wednesday nights from 6:30pm-8:30pm at St Andrews Oval.
The Lions will commence pre-season activities for the 2012 season in early June with their Freshman Trials and Information Night. The full season program is available on the Calendar page.
