Sydney University Cricket Club

Greg-Matthews Gregory Richard John Matthews started his cricket career with Rydalmere cricket club in 1966/67

He went on to play 33 Test matches for Australia from 1983 to '93.

He scored 1849 runs (four centuries at 41) and took 61 wickets.

He played in 59 one-day internationals.

He holds appearance and wicket records for NSW.

His brightest moment came in the '86 tied Test in Madras, India, when he took 5-103 in the first innings and 10-249 overall - wearing a sweater while others around him dropped from the heat.

Sydney Uni Cricket Club had not won a first grade premiership in 79 years until Greg Matthews joined the team for the 2001-2002 season. Ever since then Matthews has had an influential part to play in the club.

Matthews topped the statistics in the summer 07-08 Sydney grade competition, picking up 36 wickets from 148.3 overs at an average of 11.19.

And then played fourth grade for Sydney University alongside 19-year-old son Nolan in the 08-09 season.
