For over a century, sport has been a component of the student experience at the University of Sydney. The University boasts more than 300 Australian Representatives, including 115 Olympians and more than 100 Wallabies. Since its inception in 1990, the Elite Athlete Program has become a leader in the provision of services to elite athletes.
Being a part of the Elite Athlete Program
If you are an elite athlete, we want to attract you to The University of Sydney.
This year, more than 260 students across 28 sports received financial sporting scholarships. A further 53 students were offered places in our Talented Athlete Program for emerging athletes.
In addition to financial assistance, athletes receive access to international travel grants, academic tutoring and counselling, personal development seminars, specialised exercise and nutrition programs and access to some of the finest fitness facilities in Australia.
Sydney University athletes become part of Australia's oldest and richest academic and sporting tradition. The University is the only tertiary education institution to be formally linked with the New South Wales Institute of Sport (NSWIS).
Our aim is to attract, encourage and assist elite athletes with their sporting and academic pursuits concurrently.

Supporting Sporting Scholarships
All sport, whether at the elite or inter-faculty level, is managed by the professional staff at Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness. They are assisted by a team of specialist coaches, administrators and associated volunteers.
The Foundation was established in 2005 and is dedicated to ensuring the on-going viability and sustainability of sport and sporting success at the University. Extensive funding is required to provide the necessary infrastructure, coaching and administrative expertise, as well as the Sporting Scholarship Program for élite athletes. The Foundation enables benefactors to receive tax deductions for all donations in support of their principal sporting interests.
The University of Sydney Sport Foundation is structured so that gifts can be directed to support "sport in general" (for example scholarships or capital works projects) or "specific sporting clubs." There are currently 44 affiliated sporting clubs.
