Our engaging Sport & Exercise Science modules offer year 11 and 12 students the opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge in a variety of practical settings. These workshops are provided on a group booking basis to schools and are ideal as an introduction, mid-way or revision exercise for various parts of the PDHPE syllabus.
Four short workshops approx. 2.5 hours in length are available, allowing two to be completed within one day if required.

MODULE 1: TESTING PHYSICAL FITNESS AND MOVEMENT EFFICIENCY
Students will participate in fitness and skills testing which includes such tests as the 40m sprint with the use of speed gates, VO2 sub max test and vertical jump with the vertec, during this time they will also experience the effects of exercise on the cardiorespiratory system. By the end of the module, students will possess an understanding of testing physical fitness and the relationship it has with movement efficiency. Students will also have developed a personalised health and skills related fitness profile.

MODULE 2: BODY MECHANICS OF ROCK CLIMBING
Year 11: Core 2 The Body in Motion
Students will be able to feel and experience biomechanical principles and anatomical structures working while participating in indoor rock-climbing.
Outcomes Addressed: P7, P9 (strong anatomy focus).

MODULE 3: PHYSIOLOGICAL RESPONSE TO CARDIOVASCULAR TRAINING
Year 12: Core 2 Factors Affecting Performance
Students will experience different types of training and the effects of these on the body. Energy systems used during different types of training and training methods will be examined.
Outcomes Addressed: H7, H8, H17 Option: Lactate testing.

MODULE 4: RESISTANCE TRAINING FOR IMPROVED PERFORMANCE
Year 12: Option 4 Improving Performance
Students will develop an understanding of the role that weight/resistance training has in improving performance. Use of resistance equipment such speed chutes and weighted sleds will be used to enhance student learning and understanding.
Outcomes Addressed: H7, H8, H10, H17.
