Sydney University was represented well in the East Coast Challenge which concluded yesterday. The three day Australian University Sport sanctioned event was treated as a warm up to the Australian University Games by the Sydney Uni students. This, however, didn’t lessen the intensity displayed by the 70 participants. Sydney Uni was represented in Basketball, Tennis, Touch Football and Ultimate Frisbee.

Women’s Basketball fielded two teams with USYD (1) winning the gold medal match against UTS 66-35. USYD (2) finished in 5th position showing the depth of women’s basketball at the university. The men’s team came away with the bronze medal defeating UTS 89-52.

Ultimate Frisbee defeated Newcastle Uni 14-12 in the bronze medal match. Freezing cold weather didn’t deter the Frisbee throwers who held off a late comeback from the Novocastrians. Tennis Men had a hard fought out final against UNSW who in the end defeated Sydney Uni 3-2 in windy conditions. The USYD (1) Mixed Touch team were unlucky not to make the gold medal match but were happy finishing third overall while USYD (2) finished 9th.
