Sydney Uni star Sean Abbott was last week named the 2015 Young Cricketer of the Year at the Allan Border Medal awards held in Sydney.
The talented, all round cricketer collected 42 per cent of the votes for the award, running away with the title well ahead of his next nearest NSW teammate in Gurinder Sandhu who recieved 15 per cent of the votes.
Abbott has had a tremendous year, with the pinnacle being his senior Australian debut in the ODI Series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates. After making his NSW debut in 2010 he has spent the last couple of years playing for Sydney University Cricket Club in the Sydney Grade Cricket competition. Originally hailing from Windsor, he has also become a prominent player in the Big Bash League. The right handed batter and medium, fast bowler was very much in the mix for selection in the ICC World Cup fifteen man squad and is definitely a star on the rise as he continues to demonstrate his ability on the national stage.
The Young Cricketer of the Year is awarded to a cricketer who is under 24 years of age and has not played more than 10 first-class games prior to the voting period. For 22 year old Abbott, 2015 looks promising and with more hard work and strong performances anything is possible for this young talent.
