Sydney University Lions claimed a 15th consecutive Gridiron NSW Division One title with a 17-nil win over West Sydney Pirates in the grand final played a Leichhardt Oval on December 16.
Unlike the 2016 title which the Lions won with a touchdown in the final minute, the Lions dominated the 2017 decider to claim the Waratah Bowl.
Sydney Uni made the Waratah Bowl grand final in 2000, 2001 and 2002 before their run started with a win over UWS Outlaws in the 2003 decider.
They’ve won every Waratah Bowl since, including the 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 titles over West Sydney Pirates.
The Pirates, who play their home games at Craik Park in Austral, have now lost six Waratah Bowls to the Lions since 2004.
