Australian Stingers take bronze at world stage

Five Sydney University Lions have been crucial in a 10-9 win for Australia over Hungary at the FINA World Championship in Quangju Korea, winning their second bronze medal in the history of competition.

The stage was set to be a nail-biter as the Aussies were hungry for a win after going down to the previous Olympic champions, United States, in the semi-final.

Sydney University Lion Hannah Buckling was an absolute asset for Australia finding the back of the net early in match. Another late goal followed to give her team another advantage towards the bronze medal.

Scores reflected some tidy defence from the Australians as they were able to limit the aggressive European powerhouse to 2 goals in the last quarter to claim their bronze silverwear.

It was also no surprise that sharpshooter Bronte Halligan also joined the scorers list, keeping the Hungarians away from their prize.

Other Sydney University alumni Isobel Bishop, Keesja Gofers, and Lea Yanitsis also found themselves on the podium putting them in a prime spot now with less than a year until the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The mens team consisting of Sydney University owned Anthony Hrysanthos also fought valiantly after beating former FINA bronze medalists, Greece. The Australian Sharks finished 6th overall.
