SUSF Elite Athlete Program (EAP) scholarship holder Jasmine Rafiq won the Australian Under 21 Female Kata Individual title at the National Karate Championships held in Adelaide at the weekend.
Jasmine successfully defended the title she won at the 2014 National Championships held in Perth.
Jasmine also placed third in the Senior Female Open Kata, which she won in 2013, when she finished second in the Under 21 championship. She also finished third in the Open category in 2014.
As a result of her efforts at the 2015 championships, Jasmine earned selection in the Australian team to contest the Under 21 Kata category at WKF Junior World Championships, to be held in Jakarta.
The Australian Karate Federation has also selected Jasmine for the K1 Premier League (German Open) in Coburg in September.
Jasmine has continued her form from 2014 when she was in the Australian team that contested the Oceania Karate Championships in both Under 21 and Open divisions.
The Bachelor of Pharmacy student also competed at the 2014 World University Karate Championships, held in Bar, Montenegro. The 2014 World University Karate Championships was a part of the high performance pathway within Australian University Sport and Australian Karate Federation programs.
It is an elite level event held every odd year under the auspices of the International University Sport Federation (FISU) and run to the highest standards involving International athletes.
