Sydney University and NSW fast bowler Mark Cameron has signed with state cricket team, the Western Australian Warriors.
While representing Sydney University Cricket Club (SUCC), Cameron, who made his first-class debut for NSW in 2002-03, has taken 68 wickets for his state in 16 matches, at a superb average of 24.63. This included five five-wicket hauls, and a best match analysis of 11-52 against Queensland last season.
In a press release from the Western Australian Cricket Association, Cameron said: “The Warriors look like they are on the right track at the moment with a talented, youthful side and the chance to be part of that set-up is very exciting.
“I thank Cricket NSW for giving me the opportunity to play interstate cricket and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Blues, but the chance to move to WA was too good to pass up and I can’t wait to get over and meet my team-mates and start pre-season training.”
SUCC Director of Cricket Gary Whitaker was quick to praise Cameron for his contribution to the cricket club: “Mark has been a keen and loyal member of SUCC and has always contributed match-winning performances when available to wear the Blue and Gold.
“His knowledge experience in his contribution to guiding our scholarship group educating and implementing the srength and conditioning program in the initial stages is part of the reason for the success we had in season 2010-11.
“His legacy at SUCC will always part of the dressing-room banter among his club mates, and scaring many opposition teams with his mere presence. He is one of the most feared bowlers in all forms of cricket and we wish him and his family all the success in the future.
“There always be a place for Mark at SUCC whether playing or mentoring our new breed of young lions.”
