At 33 years of age, Carmen Marton is still delivering gold medal performances, taking out the -57kg women’s event at the Pacific Games in Samoa.

A member of Sydney Uni’s Elite Athlete Program, Marton has set her sights on a fourth consecutive Olympics appearance in Tokyo 2020, with her latest win producing handy qualification points.

It has helped her qualify for the upcoming Sofia Grand Prix, where more points are on offer, edging Marton closer to her Olympic dream.

Marton now boasts two Pacific Games gold medals, backing up her win in Port Moresby in 2015, and was Australia’s first ever taekwondo world champion after she won the women’s lightweight medal at the 2013 World Taekwondo Championships in Puebla.

Overall, 26 Australians claimed medals at the 2019 Pacific Games, with all 15 taekwondo athletes bringing home gold in an incredible feat.
