Sydney University Sports Scholarship holder Greg Clune has enjoyed immense success at the NSW Gymnastics Championships, taking out three state titles and qualifying for the Indo Pacific Championships in New Zealand later this year.
A third year Human Movement and Health Education student, Clune claimed the Senior Elite Tumbling, Senior Elite DMT, and 17 + Trampoline State titles, to go with the Senior Elite Tumbling title he claimed at the Victorian Championships a week earlier.
Clune will now focus his preparations on claiming an 11th consecutive National tumbling title at the Australian Championships to be held this July in Bendigo.
Tumbling is an acrobatic gymnastic discipline performed along a 25 metre track, and was a demonstration sport at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Trampolining became an Olympic sport in 2000, with Australian Ji Wallace claiming silver in the event.
Clune was delighted with his results at the championships, and grateful for the support he has received from Sydney Uni Sport:
“As captain of the NSW team it is important to me that I uphold my reputation as an all-round athlete so as to inspire as many young athletes as possible to participate in the sport of Tumbling.” he said.
“I am eternally grateful to Sydney Uni Sport for all their support through my three years at university; they have helped me keep a balance between my university commitments and international competitions.”
