A quick-fire 120 from Ed Cowan helped Sydney University to a 19-run win over St George in their round 9 limited overs clash at University Oval on Saturday.

Cowan cracked 13 boundaries and five sixes in his 88-ball stay, which included a 149-run partnership with opener Nick Larkin (54).

Having been sent in on their home turf, the Students amassed 5-324 from their 50 overs, with Liam Robertson also adding to the cause with an unbeaten 65.

The all-rounder then snared 3-43 as St George closed in on the big total.

Jonathan Rose (83), Trent Copeland (51), Blake McDonald (38) and Peter Francis (33) kept the visitors in the hunt before they were all out for 305 in the 49th over. The economical Tim Ley finished with 3-38, having claimed both openers in his first spell and the No.11 with the first ball of the final over.

The Students claimed a clean-sweep in the five grades over St George to move up the First Grade and Club Championship ladders.

The defending premiers are now third on the competition ladder.

Campbelltown-Camden head the Belvidere Cup ladder on 44 points, with Sutherland (42), Sydney University (37), Parramatta (34), Sydney (34) and Bankstown (33) making up the top six.

The Students are now fourth on the Club Championship table on 768 points, behind Parramatta (918), Sydney (775) and Northern District (768).

The next round of the competition will be a two-day round, with Sydney University to meet Mosman at Allan Border Oval on 13 and 18 of January.
