Inclement weather thwarted any play on day one of the two-day match between Sydney University and Fairfield-Liverpool at University Oval on Saturday, leaving the hunt for the minor premiership and the Club Championship on a knife’s edge.

Sydney University head the First Grade (Belvidere Cup) competition on 61 points on quotient from Gordon (61), with Bankstown (57), Sydney (54), Parramatta (47) and Penrith (47) making up the top six.

The Club Championship is also going down to the wire with Sydney still in front on 1231 points, and Northern District (1200) and Sydney University (1191) nipping at their heels.

Rain permitting, next Saturday’s conclusion of Round 14 and the final round of the competition proper on March 11 – a 50-over round – will be exciting fare.

The final round of the competition proper will see third-placed Bankstown hosting Sydney University at Bankstown Memorial Oval.

Rain also thwarted the first day’s play for Sydney University’s Third Grade at St Paul’s College Oval, and Fifth Grade at Camperdown Oval, while Second Grade and Fourth Grade are in good positions to garner vital points for the Club Championship tilt.

Seconds posted 210 and had Fairfield-Liverpool reeling at 3-38 at stumps on day one of their match at Rosedale Oval.

Charles Litchfield (60), David Miller (55), Ed Arnott (41) and Kevin Jacob (29) posted most of the runs for the Students, who are ninth on the ladder, but just a point out of the top six.

Sydney head the Second Grade ladder on 76 points, with UNSW (58), Northern District (54), Manly-Warringah (52), Mosman (48)  and Parramatta (44) making up the top six.

Breathing down their necks are Penrith (44), Gordon (43) and Sydney University (43). In an ideal world, the Students will be hoping for outright points next Saturday.

Sydney University Fourths have already secured first innings points over Fairfield-Liverpool and an outright result is a real possibility.

The Students rolled Fairfield-Liverpool for 88 and were 4-94 at stumps on day one.

Sydney Head the Fourth Grade ladder on 74 points, with Northern District (66), St George (56), Gordon (54), Sydney University (50) and Penrith (50) making up the top six.

Sydney University head the Third Grade ladder by nine points, with one hand on the minor premiership, while Fifth Grade are in 14th spot on the David Sherwood Cup ladder.

Sydney University’s Metropolitan Cup side will be hoping to eke out some points in their clash with UNSW at David Phillips North. Rain thwarted play on day one.

Gordon head the Metropolitan Cup ladder on 66 points, with Penrith (54), Eastern Suburbs (42), Sydney University (40), Randwick-Petersham Gold (40) and Blacktown (31) making up the top six.
