Sydney University Cricket Club finished 2010 in style by reclaiming the lead in the Club Championship and the First Grade Belvedere Cup competition with some strong performances across the board at the weekend.

An opening stand of 176 from Nick Larkin (93) and Greg Mail (84) steered University First Grade to a comfortable win over Gordon in their 50-over match at Sydney University No.1 Oval on Saturday.

The Students scored 4-216 off just 40.3 overs in reply to Gordon’s 4-215 off 50 overs after the visitors had won the toss and batted.

Larkin hit 11 boundaries and a six in his 104-ball innings, while Mail took his season tally to 817 at 90.7. Gordon opener Greg Lewis was the main contributor for the visitors with 103 off 164 balls.

Sydney University lead the First Grade competition on 55 points, with Bankstown (50), Randwick-Petersham (46), Fairfield-Liverpool (45), Sydney (41) and Blacktown (36) making up the top six. The competition will resume with a two-day round on January 8 and 15, with Sydney University hosting  North Sydney.

Larkin franked his Saturday form with another strong knock in Sydney University’s Poidevin-Gray (Under 21) competition win over Mosman at Sydney University No.1 Oval on Sunday.

The Students amassed 8-247 off 50 overs, thanks to Liam Robertson (75), James Crowley (51), Larkin (40) and Justin Younes  (33), before dismissing Mosman for 151 off 49.2 overs, with Charles McKeith (4-11) and Nigel Cowell (3-33) sharing the bowling honours.

Eastern Suburbs lead the Poidevin-Gray Shield on 17 points after five rounds, with Hawkesbury (16), Sydney University (16), Manly-Warringah (16), St George (16) and Penrith (15) making up the top six.

The win helped Sydney University reclaim the lead in the 2010-11 Club Championship. Sydney University head the ladder on 722 points, with Sydney (713), St George (711), Bankstown (694), Manly-Warringah (681) and Randwick-Petersham (680) making up a congested top six.

In the First Grade limited overs competition, Randwick-Petersham lead the way after six rounds on 27 points, with Sydney University (25), Manly-Warringah (21), Fairfield-Liverpool (21), Blacktown (20) and Bankstown (20) making up the top six.

In the lower grades, Sydney University are running 5th in Second Grade, 7th in Third Grade, 16th in Fourth Grade and 17th in Fifth Grade.
