Sydney University teams are well-placed to earn Club Championship points in four of the five Round 11 grade matches against Sutherland after day one on Saturday.

Sydney University Firsts were 8-305 at stumps at Glen McGrath Oval after winning the toss and batting. With the dangerous Matthew Morgan still at the crease on 27, skipper Will Hay might elect the bat on for some quick runs before lunch on Saturday.

Nick Larkin (85), Scott Henry (75) and Mark Faraday (50) put the Students in a strong position to take the points and remain at the competition helm.

Sydney University Seconds are also in a good position to earn valuable competition and Club Championship points.

After winning the toss and giving Sutherland first use of the Sydney University No.1 Oval strip, the Students ripped through visitor’s batting line-up. Sutherland were all out for 197, with Ben Joy (3-40) and Robert Edwards (3-48) taking the bowling honours.

Sydney University were 3-125 at stumps, with Ben Larkin having contributed 42 and Liam Robertson unbeaten on 32.

Ken Huckle (87), Jack Hill (64 not out) and John Saint (60) helped Sydney University Thirds to 6-304 at stumps at Sutherland Oval. As with Will Hay, skipper Daniel Ward has the interesting option of posting some more quick runs or declaring overnight.

Sydney University Fourths will resume on 1-47 next Saturday – with James Larkin unbeaten on 38 – after dismissing Sutherland for 210 at Sydney University No.2 Oval, while Fifth Grade have the job ahead of them, resuming on 0-12 in pursuit of Sutherland’s 333 at Tonkin Park.
