Hayden Kerr started the 2019-20 NSW Premier Cricket competition with a sparkling century to help Sydney University to a bonus point win over Sydney in their limited overs fixture on Saturday.

Kerr found the Sydney University Oval pickets nine times and went over them five times in racking up 121 off just 113-balls before retiring hurt.

He shared an 82-run opening stand with Nick Larkin (33), a 75-run stands with No.4 Ryan McElduff (45) and No.5 Liam Robertson (55) as the Students racked up 6-325 off their 50 overs.

A product of Chevalier College at Bowral, Kerr is in his seventh season for Sydney University having worked his way through the ranks. He made his First Grade debut in the 2016-17 season. It was his fourth century for the club and took him to 3568 runs at 33.66.

Sydney University restricted Sydney to 190 off 42.5 overs, with quick Charlie Cassell collecting 3-34 off his 10 overs and leg-spinner Devlin Malone picking up 3-51, while Kerr finished a memorable match chipping in with 2-6 to finish the tail with a tale to tell.

Beau McClintock (48 not out) and Alex Glendenning (35) shared a 63-run seventh wicket partnership to give Sydney a glimmer of hope.

The Students will host Randwick Petersham at University Oval in the first of the two-day matches starting this Saturday.
