Sydney University’s Alexander Croak created history at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi on Sunday when she became the first Australian athlete to win gold medals in gymnastics and diving.

The Sydney University Sports Scholarship holder won a gold medal at the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games- competing in gymnastics. She now has a gold medal in synchronised diving – with Melissa Wu – in the 10m platform.

The two Australian’s scored 335.76 to finish in front of Pandelela Rinong Pamg and Mun Yee Leong (328.38) from Malaysia. Briony Cole and Anabelle Smith (325.50), from Australia, took bronze.

Croak was clearly pleased with the gold medal and also with the history that she had just made.

“My coach (Salvador Sobrino) just told me that I am first (Australian) person to get medal in both sports,”’ Croak said. “I am honoured and extremely proud of my achievements.’”

Croak is the first female, and just the third Australian athlete overall, to compete at the Commonwealth Games in different sports.

She  is completing a Master of Health Science (Sexual Health) at Sydney University and is an Elite Athlete Program Member.
