After dropping a disappointing game at home against the ever-improving West Coast Waves on Friday night, the Flames produced a strong effort at Logan on Sunday, but again fell short.
Sydney led for much of the game in Logan, but could not sustain the effort and lost 68-64 to drop to a 3-5 record and seventh position on the WNBL ladder.
Playing without injured stars Natalie Porter, Mikaela Dombkins and Eva Afeaki, the Flames have shown resilience and spirit over the last three weeks, but have not gained the desired results on the scoreboard.
Flames head coach Karen Dalton said the playing group remained positive and looking forward to the challenge of a further three games on the road in the next two weeks.
“Obviously the girls are disappointed with the losses, but our effort against Logan was terrific and we certainly showed some very positive signs,” she said.
“The girls are working very hard on the practice floor and in the gym and we are confident we can turn it around and get some rewards on the scoreboard.”
Sydney import Amy Denson has been a rock in her debut season in the WNBL and showed her class with a stellar 35 point, 16 rebound performance against the Waves last Friday.
She backed that up with another double-double against the deep Logan front court on Sunday and continues to impress pundits around the league with her shooting touch and work rate.
Dalton said Denson had been of the league’s most consistent players in the opening six rounds of the season and continues to get better each week.
“Amy has been so consistent for us and in the last couple of weeks, has really stepped up and showed what a class player she is,” she said.
The Flames travel to Canberra on Saturday to take on the Australian Institute of Sport, then make the trek south to Melbourne the following weekend to take on league heavyweights Dandenong and Bulleen.
