Former University of Sydney Elite Athlete Program member, Will Ryan and his sailing partner, Mat Belcher have been crowned 2018 World Series Champions in the Men’s 470 Class in the World Cup of Sailing Final on June 10, Marseille, France.

Ryan and Belcher won races five and six and secured two third place finishes in the 11 events of the World Series before the medal race to set-up their overall victory.

In sealing their Championship, through coming second in the all-important Medal Race, Ryan and Belcher have sealed their fourth 470 World Cup title, after winning titles together in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

Ryan and Belcher are a formidable pairing in World Sailing, also winning silver medals for Australia in the Men’s 470 Class at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

The next World Cup series starts in Enoshima, Japan, in September and goes to Miami, USA, and Genoa, Italy, before the final at the Paris 2024 Olympic venue in Marseille.

Ryan graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce from Sydney University in 2012 and began his Master of Management in 2016.
