Hough through to hurdles finals

Sydney University Athletics Club member Nicholas Hough has qualified for a berth in the final of the men’s 110m hurdle at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.

Hough finished third in the second heat of the event run this morning on the Carrara Athletics track.

England’s Andrew Pozzi won the heat in 13.29sec, with South Africa’s Antonio Alkana finishing second in 13.32sec, and Hough third in 13.46.

The SUAC 2017 Athlete of the Year, Hough placed 4th in the 110m hurdles final at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games and would like nothing better than to stand on the podium at the Gold Coast.

A Bachelor of Information Technology (Honours) graduate, Hough has been competing on the international scene since he was 16, when he claimed gold in the 110m hurdle at the 2010 Youth Olympics.

He just missed selection for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games but rebounded last year making the Australian team for the 2017 London Athletics World Championships.

He achieved a number of qualifying Commonwealth Games times during 2017 with a succession of barnstorming runs on the European summer circuit and looks primed to make his mark in the final which will be run tomorrow evening.
