University of Sydney Freestyle Wrestling Club has taken home a number of medals after the State Championships held earlier this year. Robyn Soper won a gold medal in the women’s 63kg weight division, while Martin Doyle won gold in the Veterans competition. The club was also well represented by Nick Roche and Ali El Kheir who collected bronze in their respective weight divisions.
The National Championships will be held in eight weeks time at the AIS, with many of the clubs athletes now setting their sights on this competition.
In late April the club will be hosting a beginners bootcamp for anyone interested in learning the fundamentals of Olympic freestyle wrestling. The club is fortunate enough to have Commonwealth Games wrestler Jayden Lawrence returning to teach students on Friday afternoons at 5:30pm.
