25.06.2008 – Media Release – Renshaw Headway in Jerez

[email extract]

Dear all,

Welcome to the big league! Lach raced overnight at the Gran Premio Andalucia in Jerez, Spain. As expected the race was very quick! Lach made good use of the opportunity posting an adequate yet essential performance in the first leg of his European tour.

From the inside lane, Lach was characteristically out quick and was jostled midway into the pack. The group bunched down the back straight, with a bit of push and shove through the first lap. Tactics were quickly thrown out the window with the elongated sprint led through 400m by the pacemaker in a fast 49.65secs, with Lach sitting back in 4th.

With the field strung out in single file down the back straight. Renshaw was well back at the 600m mark, but came home strongly over the final 100m, passing a couple to finish in 8th position with a time of 1:47.6secs.

“I’m happy with the time, but I’m lacking race fitness. It was a good hit out to get the legs rolling over again. We’d planned for Jerez to be a warm-up for me.”

The field ahead was a well oiled mix of athletes a number of races into their season, behind a winning time of 1.43.07 by Lopez from Cuba.

Lach’s performance puts him in good stead for the month of competition ahead and is sure to be the start of some slick times prior to his Olympic debut.

“I’m looking forward to a number of other races ahead and I’d say that my preparation for the Olympics is where I want it to be – as long as I keep believing in it anything can happen.”

Results posted on the website.
Lach’s next race is in Milan, ITALY – Notturna di Milano next Thurday morning 3rd July.

Cheers

Matt
